Hi,

I am trying for the first time to make a (commercial print CMYK) publication
using just black and 1 pantone color. All the photos in my pyblication I
turned to grayscale either from photoshop prior to importing them to my
publication (using mode>grayscale) either diectly from publisher using the
button from the picture toolbar.

When i convert my publication to pdf and check the separations (in adobe
acrobat, tools>print production>output preview) all the pictures that are
supposed to be grayscale do have CMY too) why is this? shouldn't there be
only black? what am i doing wrong?

thank you,

Steven.

Mary,

thank you for your continuing support. I have read various articles from the
link you send me, quite a few are interesting. I really can't get an specific
answer on my issue though, could you please be more specific?

Steven.

It is an inherint problem in Publisher that it passes sRGB when printing
composite. You can try and print separations and hopefully get device gray
coming out. But I would convert to grayscale in Acrobat. You can also
configure the properties of your printer to substitue device gray for impure
gray, same thing for blacks. Other than that, I'd look into using PitStop
Professional from Enfocus or Apago's PDF Enhancer to fix that problem for
you.
