greyed out fill tool

Sometimes when I select the fill tool (bucket) from the drawing toolbar the
colour palette is greyed-out. I've tried resetting the tool and deleting the
icon from the toolbar and dragging it back again but it doesn't change
things. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can restore the
tool? Thanks

Pardon the seemingly dumb question :) but are you selecting something to
which a fill can be applied before clicking the button? If so & the button
is still misfiring consistently you may need to make a Registry edit... In
which case I'll let someone else handle that - I don't do Registry:)

I had selected a box within a table to fill. I've jsut dicovered that it
works when I view the Tables toolbar (but not on the drawing toolbar)

Thanks for the reply though.

Although the Shading Color button on the Tables and Borders toolbar has the
same paint can icon as the Fill Color button on the Drawing toolbar, they
are actually entirely different commands. Fill Color is used for AutoShapes
(including text boxes); shading color is used for text paragraphs and table
cells.
