how do i show closer spaced gridlines in a slide?

Right click on the slide, choose show Grids and Guides.
Or: http://www.pptalchemy.co.uk/2007guides.html
In the dialogue you can choose how close the grid is spaced next to
distance.

0.125 cm (or equivalent) is as close as you can get. Maybe if you let us know
what you are trying to do we can come up with an alternative method.
