Groove 2007 Terminates Immediately

I have Office 2007 Groove (client) running on my XP Pro desktop okay, and now
I'm trying to get it to function on my HP Notebook w/Vista Ultimate OS, 2Gb
Ram and 2007 MS Office Suite SP1 installed, but can't get Groove to even
startup on the notebook. Every time I try it almost instantaneously returns:
"Microsoft Office Groove has stopped working. A problem caused the program to
stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a
solution is available."

The Event Viewer General tab log for the 'Error' level states: Event 1000,
Application Error, Faulting application GROOVE.EXE, version 12.0.6211.1000
time stamp 0x46d4b5ed, fault module kernel32.dll, version 6.0.6000.16386,
time stamp 0x4549bd80, exception code 0xe0000002. fault offset 0x0001b09e.
process id 0xb4c. application start time 0x01c8675456fb240, Task Category
(100), Locale ID 1033.

The GrooveMonitor.exe process is running in the background and I've tried
starting GrooveAuditService.exe, then rebooting too. I've tried temporarily
stopping AVG and Spy Protector, uninstalling Groove, rebooting, then
reinstalling Groove and rebooting, and even downloaded and reinstalled the
current Groove Trial version, but still no go.

Any other ideas are greatly appreciated!

You have probably done this but have you tried to run Windows update
on the machien and grab all the possible updates for your machine
including the Office updates outstanding. Use Microsoft Update and
not Windows Update.

Thanks for replying Tommy, but yes, I've always diligently run Microsoft
Update and gotten all the current Vista OS + Office 2007 patches, fixes and
updates to no avail. Here's the complete picture: I never had any XP OS on
this notebook; I started with Vista Premium 32-bit and upgraded to Ultimate
32-bit (which I'm now running) and Office 2003 Pro which I upgraded to 2007
Pro w/Office SP1 (all Genuine), GrooveMonior is running in the background,
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Groove several times (plus uninstalled and
reinstalled the entire Office 2007 Suite, and Office 2003 and then upgraded
to Office 2007 once again too, in order to install them all on the "same
level" before using Microsoft Update) and restarted between each install with
zero improvement. AVG has found no viruses, and I've also temporarily
disabled AVG and SpyProtect during installs. This is the very first time(s)
I've tried to install Groove on this notebook (i.e., no other old installs)
and besides this Groove issue I've not had any other problems (other than a
known Norton 2007 perpetual "Gathering Information" issue which doesn't
otherwise seem to affect any Norton function or anything else. BTW I do not
have Norton Anti-Virus installed, and this is Office Groove 2007 verson:
4.2.1.2704). Nor have I ever used any Vista performance tweaker. Also, I used
the same Genuine Groove install CD to load it on my XP Pro OS desktop
computer which installed and runs fine, so this isn't a defective CD glitch.
And although this Groove issue seems to be an installation problem/conflict
Microsoft won't provide ANY assistance without collecting another $250+ first
(even though I just purchased Groove only a week ago, so they might as well
have just charged me $500 to purchase + install it in the first place!). It
looks like a few other posters here and elsewhere have had this same problem
but no one anywhere or in this official MS community forum has been able to
assist (yet), nor have I been able to find any other helpful reference,
information or procedures on the net. It's beginning to drive me nuts and
before I give up and try returning Groove to Microsoft for a refund (CompUSA
won't take it back now that they're going out of business), would anyone who
reads this be so kind to tell me if you've experienced this problem and
resolved it, and if so, how? Thank you for you time.

I have an identical problem. Groove does work on my desktop running XP. I
downloaded the program through the microsoft website. I used the backup disk
they mailed me to install Office on my laptop, running Windows Vista, and
that is where I get the exact same problem as you. If you do find a
solution, please post it here.

Same problem too. HP laptop running Vista Premium. All other office products
work fine. Except Groove. Tried all possible solutions. But it seems to me
that I need to reinstall Windows. Kernel problem! Never solved it without a
clean OS install.

I am having a very similar problem (ID 1000) using Windows XP Media Center
2005. I could not find any information either- but the problem has now been
resolved, following me running groovecleaner.exe which is provided in your
Groove folder.

I hope that this helps.

Hi Guys,

I also have the problem with exact error codes. Thanks for your suggestions
as I tried everything you guys mentioned but no luck. I even tried to install
Office2007 sp1 but still have the problem (microsoft mentioned SP1 has the
fix for this but it wont solve it)

The only solution I found so far is to format the computer and install
Groove2007 as the first office application. It works then.

Have you tried grooveclean.exe? I had a similar issue which was
resolved when I ran this file, which comes as a standard part of the
installation.

I also have a problem and am on the road, so can't format the laptop: HP
DV9000; 3 Gig Ram. Have a legit load of Vista Ultimate, virgin, not upgrade.
Have a legit load of Office 07 Ultimate, virgin, not upgrade. Groove
Terminates immediately upon starting it. Have done all the updates, office
diag., uninstalled it, re-installed it.... still can't use a program I
heavily rely on when on the road. HELP!

Hey guys, I've been following this discussion across several forums as I have
a client with the same error.

A little background first - my client has been running Groove for the past 2
months without any problems until, last Friday, she gets the dreaded Groove
2007 has encountered an error and needs to restart problem.

Now I spent hours searching over internet forums and trying different things
and I've just got her machine working with Groove again - here's how:

Be warned that some of these steps involve deleting registry entries. You
shouldn't attempt these steps unless you understand the inherent risk of
toying with registry.

1. Ran the grooveclean.exe - all entry (by running the run command
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\grooveclean.exe" -all)
2. Uninstalled Groove 2007
3. Ran the Registry option in Ccleaner (www.ccleaner.com)
4. Searched for Groove 2007 related entries in HijackThis
(http://www.download.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.html). I
didn't find any entries, but you might.
5. Ran regedit in the run command box.
6. Created a registry backup (File/Export/create a file name and save).
7. Minimised the tree on the left and highlighted My Computer. Then pressed
F3 and typed in the search phrase 'groove'.
8. Deleted all Groove related registry entries (by pressing F3 to advance to
the next Groove entry). Some groove entries did not relate to Groove 2007 so
they were not deleted. Also some groove registry entries related to linkages
to Groove backups that I had created, those were not deleted (e.g. Groove
account backup).
9. Deleted Groove related files and folders on the C: (Tools/Folder
Options/View tab/Show hidden files and folders). These wer e found in the
Documents and Settings\Clients Account\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Office\Groove.
10. After restarting the machine, I reinstalled Groove 2007 and then
restarted the machine again.

Hey presto Groove worked.

I hope this helps you guys.

Cheers.

YEAH!!! The only thing on your list I hadn't tried yet was to run
GrooveClean from a command prompt with the "-all" switch. I found Groove
Monitor was still running and killed it with Task Manager, then ran
GrooveClean as described. That was all it took to make it run again.

Thanks, NachosWithCheese
