Groove 3.1 - Network Communications Relay Servers

Hi,

Are the relay servers for Groove 3.1 still operational?

My licences use:
r020.groove.net
r024.groove.net
r029.groove.net

Clients work ok when connected to same LAN but not across internet. Have
checked required ports open and that firewall not blocking but comms will not
work.

Would appreciate guidance. At present we can't use our 3.1 licences. Need to
understand if this is a local/comms issue or policy change related to change
to Office 2007

Thanks...

Hi Martin

As far as I can tell they are still working. In my comms settings I see:

Device URL: grooveDNS://r020.groove.net
Network address:198.182.235.32
Network protocol:TransportTCPConnection
Connection duration (seconds):33732
Address List:198.182.235.32:2492:TCP:DNS,
198.182.235.32:443:SSLDirect:DNS, 198.182.235.32:80:HTTPDirect:DNS

I can connect to it using telnet, so I think it is still there.

I believe that the 3.1 and 2007 relay server sets are actually the same thing.

Hope this helps.

The 3.1 Relay servers are all still running. The Groove 2007 Relay servers
are based on slightly different technology than the 3.1 relay servers and are
not the same server set as the 3.1 servers.

Many thanks for all these responses - very helpful. I'm having problems
connecting through one ISP. The required ports scan as being open but for
some reason I can't connect to the servers.

Martin -

Some ISPs block un-well-known ports as a way of reducing spyware etc. They
may be able to unblock ports on a per-account basis if you ask.

GWON - thanks for the clarification regarding the relay servers.

SBC - yeah, since the relay servers don't reply to a perfectly respectable
ping, you have to use telnet. If it weren't likely to be misconstrued, I'd
have a page on the infopatterns web site where the status of all known relay
servers could be seen at a glance. :)
