Grouping tasks

Hi,
I'm using Project 2002

I have a set of tasks for a person to perform which are all based in a
similar physical location than all the other tasks. When I level the tasks
and the resources, Project splits these tasks between the resources, as it
would if I have made no other reccommendation. I would like to somehow group
these tasks so that they can be performed in any order but by the same
individual resource. My resources are allocated such that I have a 200% man
resource, and each task takes 100% of a man resource.

Thanks
Helen

Hio,

I'm sorry but I don't understand this. leveling never ever replaces a
resource by a different one.
What exactly do you mean by Project splits the tasks between the resources?

Hi,

I apologise for being unclear. I have around 25 tasks, each of them quite
short and they all have dependancies amongst themselves. I have a work
resource of 200% available to me, ie I have 2 men working full time of equal
qualification. Each task required a work resource of 100% to be allocated to
it, ie, one man working on it. When I level the tasks it does so to allow
each man to work on one task at a time, completing as many tasks as possible
until between the two of them they get all the tasks done. However, some of
my tasks are in the same physical location and the others are scattered
around. I would like to be able to stipulate that if one of my resources
performs one of the location specific tasks, then he should perform all of
the location specific tasks before moving onto any other tasks. However,
these location specific tasks do not have direct dependancies between
themselves. I hope this is clearer.

Thanks
Helen

Hi Helen,

I have never found a really convincing solution for this :-((
You can try putting the location tasks to a higher priority but that is bnot
really reflecting reality is it?

Jan,

Thats a bit of a shame really. I have put all of the location specific tasks
as subtasks under one heading and assigned a work resouce to the whole group
rather than to the specific tasks and then put fake dependancies between the
tasks so that they run as a string of tasks in an order which I have defined.
This seems to work in that the tasks are now no longer being given to both
work resources, but it has meant that I have had to choose the order of the
tasks and had to give them false dependancies which is what I was trying to
avoid.

But, thanks for your help, at least I know that its not worth plodding away
and tearing my hair out!

Thanks
Helen
