Have I got a pirate copy?

Sorry if this is not the correct group to ask this question.

I bought a copy of Office XP on eBay. I installed and activated over the
internet but a message came back saying 'this copy has already been
activated on another machine'. I contacted the seller who advised me to use
the freephone number to activate, and he insisted that the copy was genuine
and had not been activated on another machine. I did this with no problem
and am now using the software. Is it possible that I am still using a pirate
copy even though I have managed to activate it?

Cheers, Paul.

Probably not - the phone activation wouldn't have gone through. Check

Having said that, if it was OEM, the seller had no rights to sell it.

Thats what I thought. However the person I spoke to only asked me for the
first 4 numbers of the long number you input when activating?
