Have you had trouble entering a new task in a new project?

Microsoft Project 2007 (B2TR)
I have not been able to enter a task in a new project. Has anyone else had
this problem and what was the solution?

Hi H. Robinson,

There have been some reports of problems with Project 2007 Beta 2
(read-only, couldn't open files, etc.) where the incorrect Tech Refresh
was installed. There are two Tech Refreshes for Beta 2 -- one for
Office 2007 Beta (Word, Excel, PPT) and one for Project Office 2007 Beta
2. If you are running both Office 2007 and Project 2007 you will need
to install both Tech Refreshes.

If you have installed the correct Tech Refresh please let us know
additional information.
Were you able to create new tasks before Tech Refresh?
What OS are you using?
What other versions of Project are installed on the machine?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

JulieS,
In the meantime, I have tried to remove and reinstall this application and I
receive an error doing both:
Microsoft Office Project Professional 2007 (Beta) encountered an error
during setup. Error 2711. An internal error has occurred.
(GraphicsFilersCDRFilesIntl_1033)
At this point I cannot remove or install - HELP!

Hi H Robinson,

Unfortunately, I cannot trouble shoot the installation nor removal from
afar as there are way too many variables in even the most straight
forward of all installations :-(

You may try the following KB article to see if it helps.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

You may also want to look at the information at the following URL which
discusses changes in the Beta program.

I removed Office 2007 Beta. Now there is an automatic setup that keeps
popping up every 15 minutes. It takes me at least a minute to get rid of the
different language windows. After I removed it, the regedit entries were kept
intact. I tried to delete as many as I found, but the entry command in
Regedit that keeps popping up does not let me to delete it. In fact, I can
delete it, but it appears again. I am in despair. Please, HELP.

Hi Leon,

I'm afraid, again, that I don't have much to offer other than to suggest
you try posting your problem with additional details (how did you remove
Beta, what does the automatic setup window say) to one of the Office
Newsgroups (for example Word, Excel, etc.) There appear to be several
folks there who may have installed/removed Office Beta several times.

I have uninstalled it three times from the Control Pannel, but it answers
back "that it does not find the files to install it". It is madness!! And it
keeps there unaltered. I went to the Registry and deleted every entry there
is for Office 2007 Beta and Office12 and to no avail. There is one entry in
the registry, of Office 2007 Beta, that it keeps coming up one second after
I have deleted it and it is impossible to get rid of it. I believe this is
the one that it is causing the following problem after, even, I have
reinstalled the Office 2000 I had:
Every 5 minutes or so, it keeps appearing the following windows:

Microsoft Office Shared MUI (Spanish) 2007 Beta
Error 1398. Installation program does not find the necessary file
C:\MSOCache\All
Users\{30120000-006E-OCOA-OOO-0000000FF1CE}-C\ Office MUI.XML, that it is
needed. Check the local net or the CD-ROM, Should you wish other possible
solutions for this problem, see: (and heres it finishes this small window)
CANCELL RETRY IGNORE

This window is accompannied by another one with the same heading:
"Wait while Windows configure Microsoft Office Shared MUI (Spanish) 2007
Beta".

Every five minutes I have to go thru the ordeal of having to delete these
windows and have reached to the point of contemplating to format the drive C,
as Microsoft does not help at all in these cases. Henceforward, I am going to
be more careful to embark in this new Beta projects.
I am seriously needing help.
Thanks,
Leon Jimenez

Hi Leon,

I'm sorry you have having such difficulty. As I posted earlier, I am by
no means an expert on operating systems nor registry edits.

I did a quick search through Google Groups for "Uninstall Office 2007
Beta" (groups.google.com and searched all microsoft.public newsgroups)

There appears to be quite a few messages and suggestions from users
about uninstalling Office 2007 Beta. Perhaps one of those multiple
fixes may help. Several suggest the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility:

Try installing the dedicated B2TR upgrade for specifically Project 2007 - I
just did, and my problems were gone.

I previously downloaded the complete B2TR Office Upgrade, and could not
enter task info at all. Now, I downloaded B2TR Project 2007 and all problems
solved.

During Installation, Customize, and go to Shared Tools, set Filters and
Converters to "Not Available", then expand the list and set GIF, JPG, PNG to
"Run from this Computer"....this should allow you to install.

btw, did you find the solution to the new task problem - i still have the
problem after installing Project B2TR.

Cheers,

H
