Help Menu Word 2000

I run Office on Windows 98. No porblems with Word until
the last few days.

Problem: The Word Help menu will not drop down to Contents
and Index. When I click "Help", only the Office Assistant
appears even when I "hide" it.

I removed and reinstalled Office, but no luck.

Please advise.
