HELP - OFFICE XP Installation Hangs

G

When Installing Office XP, installation seems to go well until it hangs on
screen saying "Installing ODBC Components". Setup Log provides no help.

Those keys are in the registry already filled out with Office names. Alos, I
installed XP2, so my MDAC should be up to date.

Also, I am not getting the error message - it just hangs.

I compared the registry entries to a machine where office installed and the
bad machine has osme entried to CDA_EH_DB and CDA_TL_DB that the good
machine does not. Could those be a problem.

I appreciate your time in trying to help me.

I tried the Cleanup utility and removed Office settings. Upon reinstall,
setup again hung at "Installing ODBC Components". Could this be beacuse my
installation disk is damaged (there are some scratches on it). I copied the
CD but got the same problem.

I am tearing my hair out over this and am at a loss as to what to do.

I appreciate your efforts and thoughts.
