Help Please Project 2003 Server Import

B

Bob Abooey

Hey all!!
Have a client that has the following:
Server:
Windows 2003 Server w/Sharepoint/Project 2003 server new install.
Clients:
Expired Project 2002 trials.

Issue is that the Project 2003 Server came with 5 user cals and the client
thought that they would be able to use the licenses for their MS Project on
their PCs. Therefore they have several projects that they would like to
import to the server so they can use the web interface since their trials
expired and they have not purchased any MS Project for their PCs. Can anyone
point me to a document or tell me how to go about doing this??

Thanks so much in advance!!!

Necessary Project Server Licenses:

Single Server:
MS Windows Server 2003 (base O/S) License
(includes IIS6)
MS SQL 2000 with Analysis Services License
MS Project Server License
(includes SharePoint Services)

2 basic types of users:
"MS Project 2003 Professional" users (generally PMs)
"PWA users" using Internet Explorer (everyone)

PWA = Project Web Access

The "CALs" are just licenses for PWA users.
Every person who uses PWA needs a CAL; except:
"MS Project 2003 Professional" users

"MS Project 2003 Professional" comes with both
MS Project licenses and and PWA CAL.

The CALs have nothing to do with MS Project.

To use the full funtionality of
MS Project Server 2003, all PMs need to get
MS Project Server 2003 Professional.
"Standard" won't work.

If you get and use
MS Project Server 2002 Professional
all of the Enterprise features in PWA won't work.

You need to bet MS Project 2003 Professional to
publish the projects to PWA for it to work.

MS Project 2003 Professional is an
integral part of the whole product.

We are licensed and use Project 2003 which in turn ties to a backend WSS. All
PMs and team members get access via the PWA (and thus own a PWA CAL)...able
to see their info as well as get to the specific project's workspace on the
WSS.

We can find no documents that state that a WSS CAL is needed for PMs and
Team members at all....

.....BUT HERE'S the question. If we provide the link to the project's
sharepoint document location for a project, such that a non PM or team member
can get access for READ ONLY....does that cause the need to have WSS CALs?

Our exhaustive search has failed to get a clear answer to when a WSS CAL is
required (or NOT), when using Project 2003 server properly.

.

There's no such thing as a WSS CAL. The WSS usage is covered by the Windows
2003 Server CAL. If you have enough Windows 2003 Server CALs, you're covered
(assuming you are in fact using WSS and not SharePoint Portal Server)..
