HELP VIEWS!!!

Liz Hubbard

Does anyone have the answer to this? I made a copy of the
Task Sheet view and called it Time Report.... I then
customized the view -- NOW every View using the Task Sheet
is altered to look like my Time Report View....

Why????!!!!! I thought you were supposed to be able to
create custom views that would not alter an existing
Global view -- or do we have a Microsoft flaw and did they
build a patch. I AM SO ANGRY!!!!

No, it's working as designed. When you change an existing
table/report/filter/view etc. you can get back the original by VIEW,TABLES
(views, whatever) ,MORE TABLES, ORGANISER. Then copy the original into your
project from the global template.

Hello Liz,

I'm afraid there is some misunderstanding here.
It is easy to customize a view (be it in a file or for all new files)
You just have to be aware that a view like the Gantt Chart has two parts
(the rightmost part, which is graphical) and the leftmost part, where the
combination of columns shown is not called a view but a table.

So when you say you want to customize the Task Sheet you in fact are
customizing a table...

Practically:

View
Table: xxxxxxx (whatever)
More Tables
Select a table that looks a bit like what you want to have
Edit
Enter a new name
Redefine your columns
Ok.

Now when you create a view
View
More Views
select Task Sheet
Edit
Give a new name
Select the table just defined...

Tables and Views defined this way are saved with your file.
If you want them to be available acroos the board, Tools, Organizer, allows
you to copy them into (and from) your Global.mpt file

Hope this helps

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you --- I need to create
tables for the data I need to see -- not views. Bless you
for this answer......
