Help with birthdays/Outlook 2000 and type of event

OK, I just switched from a Palm to a Pocket PC (running Mobile 2002)
and am trying to figure out a birthday/anniversary problem. I use
Outlook 2000 at home and Lotus Notes at work. I had all
birthdays/anniversaries in a "personal" category and had my Lotus
Notes setup so that items in personal did not sync over to my Notes
calendar. I now have no way to do this. This means that every
birthday and anniversary (and I have a BIG family) syncs over as an
"all day event." Now if somebody is trying to schedule a meeting it
looks like I am busy on my brother's birthday (which is not always bad
<g>).

I am looking for options. As I see it so far (from perusing past
posts) I could make these timed events (like midnight to midnight),
but that will clutter up the calendar quite a bit. I could use the
birthday field in the contacts list (which also means adding a bunch
more contacts), but I am unsure how that would be intergreted by
Notes, I am thinking it would be seen the same way. I could go into
Notes and manually change the status of each event.

Any other ideas? I know I could ask ActiveSync not to move items in a
given category to my PDA, but I want the info on the device.
