help word gone crazy

i have noticed that when i try to open a blank document from word icon or in
start menu my template is mising and all my documents are saving in dot. i
havent touched this tired old computer in years apart from usual updates
whats wrong with it and how do i get my setup back. i have unistalled and
reinstalled so many times now i want to throw it out window. please help this
old goat figure out what i can do to rectify this problem

You could try a search, to include hidden files, for normal.dot and deleting
all found

Documents that are defaulting to .dot during a Save is a symptom of a virus.

The first thing you should do is update your virus scanner and run a full
scan.
