Hello,
We are running Windows XP, Office 2002 & 2003. The issue
is with Word (both versions), documents & templates that
were created in previous versions.
It appears that in these templates are references to the
printer that existed on the user's computer at the time
of the template creation. All was fine with the
documents created from these templates until the print
server was brought offline. (the printers had been moved
& all was fine while the server was online, but unused).
The error received was "serious errors were encountered,
do you want to continue opening?" If you said yes, word
crashed. If you said no, word crashed. We were able to
open the documents thru Wordpad - we lost some
formatting, headers/footers, etc. We brought the server
back online; the problems went away. Upon opening one of
the many documents that had the "error" we received a
message that word repaired the error, and the document
opened.
When opening the template in a text editor, we were able
to see references to the old printer. Where is this
information found in the Word document so that it can be
safely removed?
Any assistance you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
THank you, Diane
