Hide a hit counter in FrontPage from public view?

How can I hide a hit counter from public view without placing it off the page
so a scroll bar must be used to see it?

Another way is to use a custom image, with a transparent .gif as the image.
The .gif needs to be a multiple of 10px wide.

fpcount.exe doesn't / can't work with transparency.
Best to use a 1 pixel by 1 pixel gif the same color as the page background.

Does the web host offer access to site statistics? If so, why not just use
them - they're much more accurate than a "hit counter" and you won't need to
hide anything.
