highlight first contact by default on opening?

I've searched this and 3 other groups to find out how to make the first
contact active (allowing me to search for a contact immediately) when opening
the contacts folder.

I just checked and the Detailed Address Card view does highlight the first
item when going to the Contacts folder (at least in OL2003)

Thanks Vince. I tried that in OL2k3 and while it's highlighted with a blue
square, it's not selected (where the contact name is highlighted with a blue
bar). OL2k on my desktop machine does it by default. I'm looking to get the
same functionality on my laptop in OL2k3. I'd also like to upgrade my DT to
OL2k3, but have resisted because of this tiny hassle.

BTW, just changing the view seems to select the first contact, so changing
from detailed back to standard does the same thing.

I have exactly the same problem. Office 2003 Pro, can't get the first
contact of email, task or calendar item to be highlighted when I switch from
one to another. As a result, I'm constantly forced to highlight a contact
and then search for the one I really want. Was there an option or workaround
for this?
