How can I add horizontal white stripes through fonts?

Chris

I'm making a company logo and I would like to use Ariel Black/Italic. I
would like to draw several horizontal white lines through bold black letters.

That's exactly how you do it. Select Line from the Drawing toolbar, draw the
lines through your text, set the line width you want, set the color to
white.

Forgive me, i cannot seem to make the ask question box appear so i am asking
here and really need an answer as papers are due!
Somehow i lost the ability to make a horizontal line. The symbol to click on
now puts a double line that isnt filled in, and i can no longer see the right
click mouse format object as it is grey and in background on both mouse and
toolbar.

Also, does anyone understand scanning? As my asterisks are turning to
periods when they arrive in others files.
This is a puzzlement.
Please get back to me someone.

You've posted several times, and none of your posts explain clearly enough
what you're trying to do for us to attempt an answer to your question. What
toolbar and buttons (or what menu) are you using to try to draw a line?

I dont know if you just received the reply that i wrote because a cannot open
page page just came up when i pushed the "post" button.
so here goes again,
It is on the format bar, outside border, horizontal line, and then i would
right click on the new line that i made and make it black and 1pt. Simple.
Then i went into options for some other reason and messed with checks and
unchecks since i know not what i am doing, i must have undone it all.
I did read the post about unchecking the picture holder and that helped with
another problem.

The second thing is that i am scannng 68 booklets from the 50's and 60's.
They have asterisks as footnote holders. The one who receives them as
attachments in Outlook (we both have office 2003) says the asterisks turn
into periods when he gets the files. I do not know if it is because the older
asterisks arent recognized by word because they are a little different, or if
it is some other problem. I see them on my computer as asterisks. Why would
he get them as periods?

When you apply a border from the Borders palette, the line type and weight
applied is the last one you have selected in the Borders and Shading dialog.
If you display the Tables and Borders toolbar, you can choose the line
weight and style from the toolbar, then apply the border to the desired
sides of selected cells.

I can't imagine why your asterisks are turning into periods. Are you OCRing
the documents?

Thank you
Yes, I was OCRing the books in OmniPage pro 14 but since there are so many
faded sections that arent recognized I now find it easier after scanning into
Omni to just save it into Word and edit it there where it recognizes more
words then Omni does once converted.
I only see asterisks, it is the one whom I send them to that sees periods.
The modern day asterisks are a tiny bit shorter then the 1950's ones but they
do show up ok on my files.

As for the horizontal line, I am trying to say, that I have always used the
icon on the toolbar that says "outside border", I dont go into tables at all,
just use their horizontal line in my TOC to separate the heading from the
Contents and again to separate the Contents at the bottom from the Editorial
Advisors which follows it.
It's always been easy.
Now the format objects on the right mouse isnt there and is light grey on
toolbars dropdowns at the right side of the toolbars.
When I can make some line as I used to in the TOC (that i just type myself
using tabs, no tables, the line has little crooks at the ends of it.

What you are adding is probably the Horizontal Line from the Borders
palette. Are you saying that when you click the arrow next to the Outside
Border button to get this palette, it is not displaying the palette? Or that
the palette no longer contains the Horizontal Line button?

J

jeanne

Thank you
What I am feebly saying is that when i click the arrow on the right of the
outside border button the horizontal line is there to click on as usual but
what displays isnt the old line i always got before which was in all senses
"normal" looking. Now what appears after my clicking on it A over A
horizontal line is either a double line that is grey and not filled in, or
when i click on that the next child is a horizontal line but it has little
fangs on each end about one eighth long which when i click on turn to equal
marks = on each end and the line disappears.
Weird!
I also cant get the format brush to highlight, it also stays grey as in the
background on the format tool bar.
thank you

I personally would avoid this Horizontal Line; there are easier ways to put
lines between text. But if you will go to Format | Borders and Shading and
click on Horizontal Line, you will get a choice of lines. Whichever one you
choose, I suspect, will become the default that you will get the next time
you click the button on the Borders palette. I would suggest that you *not*
try this while you are connected to the Internet. I have got the blamed
dialog up and am unable to Stop, Cancel, or close the dialog.
