How can I delete files?

I have 4 residual files in my Windows Media Player folder which seem to be
indestructible. How can I get rid of them?

How have you tried deleting them? What error(s) message(s) do you get when
you try?

If the files are deleted they disappear for about 5 seconds and then pop back
again. Even if I chase them to the Recycle Bin and delete them again before
the 5 seconds has elapsed they still pop back. If I attempt to rename the
files they clone themselves with the original name. If I transfer them to
another folder they clone themselves again in the original folder - they are
indestructible!

another thought... what are the file names? maybe they are temp files
req'd by a running program?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

For security I have Symantec virus checker, Zone Lab firewall and PestPatrol.
They have not indicated any viruses present. The names of the files are
'laprxy.dll', 'logagent', 'mplayer2' and 'npdsplay.dll'.

I'm not at all sure why you concluded these files are "residual". The
information at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;269605 suggests
that all these files are part Build 7.00.00.1954 of Windows Media Play
7. Accordingly, I can't think of any valid reason why you would want to
be deleting them other than to break Windows Media Player.

That being said, it surprising that they come back. I guess the Media
Player is self-healing for when people try to delete components.

I was assuming that you were trying to delete your own files. I should
have picked up on the clue where you mentioned the media player folder.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

When I downloaded Media Player 9 (a nice circular icon) I found that Media
Player 2 (clapperboard with 123) was still active. Options given for opening
files confusingly listed 'Media Player' twice. One was linked to MP 2 and the
other to MP 9. I decided to clear the whole Media Player folder before
downloading MP 9 again. This has proved impossible as related in my initial
question 'How can I delete files'.

What if you use the conventional way to un-install an app, via the
control panel "Add or Remove Programms"?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Don't know. Maybe do a system restore from a point prior to where you
made the changes. If needed, check in an newsgroup more closely related
to meadia player or XP.
