How can I make my Word document a TIFF file at 600dpi?

I have been given the assignment of converting a 20 page Word document in to
one long TIFF file at 600 dpi. Is this possible? (even broken down page by
page at 600dpi would be acceptable.)

What version of Word do you have? Take a look at Microsoft Document Imaging
(it should be set up as a printer if you have it) - I think it can create
TIFFs.
