How can I move (cut and paste) notes with audio?

I am enjoying OneNote immensely, even though I don't have a TabletPC. I find the linked audio notes very useful; however, I am having a bit of trouble when I attempt to move the notes to a new page (perhaps if I'm reorganizing notes after a meeting). I tried to cut the note container out of the current page and paste it to a different page within the same notebook section. However, I can't seem to play the audio, and the little speaker icons next to each note paragraph have disappeared. Re-pasting the note container onto the original page doesn't bring the linking back, either. The only way to get the links back is to undo all my actions.

Any help on how to move notes and maintain the audio link with my notes would be greatly appreciated. Apologies if the topic has already been discussed -- I've searched the forum, tech FAQ, product guide, and help, to no avail.

--How to move or copy linked audio--

You can copy and paste the audio notes within a page to a different location
on the page and the linked audio will be retrained. Select the top edge of a
note container or a paragraph and choose Copy or Cut from the Edit menu.
When you paste the linked audio should remain. Note however that if you do
not select the entire note container the audio will not be retained.

If you use the above method to copy or move the linked audio text to another
page within the same section, the audio is also not retained unless it is
within the same page group. To create a page group choose New Subpage from
the Insert menu or secondary click on the page tab and choose New Subpage.

You can move pages with the audio to a different location or another folder.
To move the whole page click on "Move page to" on the Edit menu. If you move
the page into another folder the linked audio files (WMA) will be moved into
the new folder.

--I moved my sections into another folder and my audio links do not work--

If you move your section (*.one) files to another folder using the Operating
System, rather than the OneNote interface, the links to your audio files
will be lost. OneNote stores audio files as separate files (*.MWA) and these
files need to be moved with the .one files. If you have already moved the
section without the audio and you can move the audio files into the folder
and the audio will play, but the sound icon will not appear. To play the
audio choose Audio Recording from the Tools menu and click on Play. To
prevent this problem in the future always move the .MWA files with the .ONE
files.

Tom,

Thanks for your quick response -- I'll just organize my notes by moving pages instead of note containers.

One follow-up question: I have a colleague who cut and pasted his note containers to different pages and broke the audio links. Just to confirm, I don't suppose there's any way to re-establish the linkages other than the "Undo" feature, is there? I've told him how to find the actual .WMA files, but he would obviously prefer to have the audio re-synchronized with his written notes.

cheers

Hi Chris,

Sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately no, there is no way to re-establish
the links. I even asked the development again just to make sure. I'm sure
we'll look at changing this design in the next version.

Thanks,
Tom
