You record to a CD....not save to a CD.

Once a CD-R has been burned, you cannot erase the data on it. A blank CD-R
is required to burn data.

A CD-RW, however, can be erased and have new data burned on it.

Either way, you need to use CD burning software like Nero Burning ROM or the
built-in CD-burning capability in Windows XP. In addition, you will also
need at least a CD-R drive.

Bottom line, you CANNOT use "File -> Save" or "File -> Save As..". to save
an existing or new file onto a blank CD-R or CD-RW.

Not strictly true. If the CDRW has been formatted for packet writing you
certainly CAN do a "save as" to the CD.

Thanks to you both, but one more question, why is everything I do in office
always read only? Like I said, there is no ck in the attributes but a dotted
line around the read only... Thanks again.... I have a cd rw, and had a
blank cd in, but it came up, cannot save as it is read only....... I am a
novice as you can tell, at using the cdrw.......

Do you have packet writing software installed? The native XP burning applet
(which is what I assume you're using) is *NOT* capable of packet writing. You
need third party software.
