How can I stop saved files from disappearing with nonuse?

File names turn blue after some period of time and then disappear entirely!
How do I change this setting so I don't lose saved files? I have plenty of
disk space.

Files don't disappear. File names in Windows Explorer means it's a
compressed file.

Where are you looking that you think this is happening?

First files only disappear if you delete them. Second, the filenames
turn "blue" because you ran Disk Cleanup and allowed it to compress them
to "save" disk space. And third, this isn't an Office issue, but a
feature of the file system and the operating system.
