how do I add a downloaded font?

I want to use a downloaded true type font in powerpoint. Where do I stick
the file so it's available to me? Can I do this?

On a Windows PC - I would do the following...

Start > control panel > fonts

File menu > install new font > navigate to your downloaded true type font

select it - in the list of fonts > click OK

The font will now be available to use in powerpoint and all your other
software.
