how do I add pictures one at a time to a slide

I have inserted pictures and done the individual custom animation - how do I
get the slide to start blank and add one picture at a time.

In the same place the you did your custom animation, select after previous
in the Start: window and give it the time delay you want.

To add a time delay, right-click the animation in the custom animation task
pane and choose Timing. There's a "delay" box there. You can also get to
this by double-clicking the animation in the task pane.
