how do I change a picture from one file type to another?

I have a picture that is in /bmp format, but I need it to be in .jpg format,
is there a simple way to do this?

You may use the built in (Windows XP) Picture and fax viewer. open the .bmp
file and click on save. Choose a different format and save it.
