How do i change task dependency for recurring tasks in Project 2

K

Kevin

Hi,
i have set up 3 recurring tasks in Project 2000:

1 Daily production
2 Daily request review
3 Weekly production (only on Mondays)

I need them to be linked dependent (FS) on each other but can 't find out
how to do this (asked people with experience and searched the internet). When
i try to link them 2 starts after 1 has finished all of its recurring tasks
i.e. in 2009. I need task one to start then task 2 every day and then on
Mondays task 3 after both of these have finished.

any help would be appreciated
thanks
best regards
kevin

Kevin,
For each Weekly production, the predecessor is the last Daily request review
of the previous week.
Hope this helps,

Hi Kevin,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

You will have to expand the recurring task summaries to see all the
individual tasks and then link them as you wish. Bit tedious!

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Hi Glen,
thanks for your response - i was afraid you might say something like that.
Unfortunately i have set these recurring tasks up for a couple of years (i
actually have more recurring tasks than the ones mentioned (to try to keep my
question simple i only gave 3 examples)) so it is not just tedious more
prohibitive. Is there a predessor tab in any new versions of Projects for
recurring tasks otherwise i will not be able to use Project for managing my
work.

Am i trying to do something in the wrong way or how wold you set up multiple
tasks that repeat everyday but have other non-repeating tasks dependent on
the recurring tasks as well as being dependent on themselves?

Do you know of any altenative project management software that will allow
linking dependencies with recurring tasks?
thanks again
best regards

Hi Kevin,

It sounds to me that you are runing some sort of production rather than a
dedicated unique project with a clear end date. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Generally, tasks should be from a day to 10 days Duration, otherwise you're
in danger of over- or under-managing the project. Production tasks need
production software to manage them.

Hi Glen,
thanks, you're right i am running production but also undertake project work
which needs to be scheduled in around the production work i do. Do you have a
name of any production software that you mention?
thanks

Sorry, Kevin, that's not my line. Try Googling.

You can use Project to set up a production line, but once complete, hand
over to a Production program.

Good Luck :)
