How do I change text in taskbar buttons?

Having Each Excel taskbar button start with the unnecessary "Microsoft Excel"
wastes space and means that I can see little, if any, identification of the
actual file. I notice that Word reverses them, so that I can see the
document name.

Go to Tools, Options, View, and Put a check in the "Windows in Taskbar" box.

Changing that did not affect either Excel or Word.
