alan-nayes,
Normally the default filter for project files is "all tasks". However if
you or someone else has created a custom filter and then saved the file,
that custom filter will be the default whenever the file is opened.

You can see what filters are customized for the file by going to
Tools/Organizer/Filters tab. A custom filter will take precedence over
filters in the Global file.

Select or create whatever filter you want and then save the file.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for responding John. I realize that the "all tasks" filter i
normally the one that shows up but for some reason in my file it doe
not. I have many custom filters but it always opens to the same custo
filter even if I save the file while it is in a different filter. I
there someplace in Project where someone may have put this custom filte
as a default

Hi Alan,

Sorry for bumping in. The view (Gantt chart for example) may have a
filter defined as part of the view. Choose View > More Views in the
menu. The currently applied view should be selected in the More Views
dialog box. Click the Edit button and check what filter is applied to
the view. Set it to All Tasks. Save the file which will save the
view definition.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
