How do I create a timeline illustrating historic milestones?

Is anyone familiar with a Powerpoint template that allows you to enter
events, dates, and other milestones along a timeline?

There is no PP template or add in to accomplish what you seek. I frequently
create PP timelines, but all scales and entries are accomplished manually.
Instead, I highly recommend a spectacularly easy to use timeline creation
product called TimeMap from Casesoft.com. It's inexpensive and does exactly
what you describe. I'm not affiliated with the company...I just think it's a
great tool.
