How do I customize field names?

I am trying to change the name only of the fields "baseline" and "variance".
I do not want to change the integrity of the fields. Any help is appreciated!

Hi,

You cannot change the names of fields that are not '" custom fields" such
ast the ones you mention.
You can however set a title on tables/views.

Interesting that this is another instance of reduced functionality under
Project 2007. In my 2003 plan I had a view which used columns Finish and
Finish10. These had been renamed (using Customize Fields) to Current Finish
and Last week Finish respectively.

Now that the plan file is used with Project 2007, the view still shows the
modified headers but the ability to make any other changes to (non-custom
field) Finish is no longer offered. Interestingly, if another instance of
Finish is added to the view, it only has standard header title, so the view
has two identical columns but with different titles (Finish and Current
Finish).

Can anyone explain any logic around this design change ?

Dytham,

Project 2003 did not have the ability to rename fields other than
custom fields. You could (and still can in Project 2007) change the
Title that appears in the column headings but you cannot rename a
"standard" field through Tools > Customize > Fields.

To apply a new title to the field, double click on the column heading
and apply a title.

Not an issue of reduced functionality -- it's the same as it has been
for a very long time.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
