How do I format the Table of Contents?

When I enter a TOC (Office XP) it creates a grey background to each line. How
do I remove that background? I want the hyperlinks to stay in effect, but not
the background color.

It's field shading, just to let you know this is a field, not regular text.
It won't print, but you can control whether it appears under Tools |
Options, View tab.
