Hello Elle,
My assumption is that you have at least 2 files. A detailed schedule and a
milestone schedule. My first thought is that if my assumption is correct why
have 2 separate schedules? Why not just filter on the milestone column?
If you require 2 separate files (using the milestone schedule to capture
deliverables from several schedules) then you could use the SS for FF. I am
not sure who "laughed this off as lazy planning", but will serve the purpose
or you could use a hammock task. To hammock link the task go to the task in
the detailed schedule from which you want to link data copy past special
paste link. Remember that this is a reflection of the information from the
detailed schedule. The detailed schedule should be statused and reflect the
reality of the program not the PMs deadlines. Therefore, your milestone
schedule will reflect reality not always what the PM wants to hear.

Who thinks it's lazy planning? If you really want it, I'm sure I can come
up with a far more complicated way of doing the same thing. For a nice fat
fee, I'll write a long and complicated VBA macro to do it, if someone
prefers it.

The best way would probably be to have one plan. If you have only certain
information you want to show to the upper management, you can set a flag
field such as Flag1=Yes. You can filter show only Flag1=yes and show that to
the management.

If you have two files, yes, just link them. Of course you need to be
careful not to change the name or location of either file. No this is not
lazy planning.

Since you already have two separate files, you may want to consider a
companion product to MS Project, it is called Kidasa Milestones Professional
(www.kidasa.com). It has been evaluated, see the link below and click on the
link to find companion products, etc. This software creates great eye candy
for showing to the management, especially for more summary information. The
software allows automation tags that will perform the same task -- update
from the MS Project file.

Hi Jim,

Please be aware that the companion products listed on our mvp project site
are purely a listing. They have not necessarily been evaluated or approved
by MVPs or anyone else for that matter. They are listed as a help to
readers, and the only qualifying factor is that the products could be of
direct help to Microsoft Project users. Indeed, it's as stated at the top
of the page. :)
