How do I make my own initial/date toolbar button in word?

I'm trying to create a new toolbar button that will allow me to insert
predefined initials and the current date.

Why not just use AutoText? But if you really want a button, record a macro
that inserts the AutoText and attach that to a toolbar button.

No need for a macro; AutoText entries can be assigned to toolbar buttons
already through Tools | Customize.
