How do i open a microsoft office word document in microsoft works

i purchased a microsoft Works pogramme 2005, but i cannot open a new blank
document nor can i open documents already produced in Office standard.
Office standard was taken off computer & Works installed!
Is this the problem?

You must have Works Suite. However, your action bring up this question in my
mind, why did you down grade from Office to Works?

Works is a separate program from Word and doesn't work especially well with
it. If you have the Works suite, you have Word.
