How do I run set up in maintenance mode

I receive an error message when I start an Office product that says "No
Office Assistant in file, run set up in maintenance mode." I've inserted the
Office installation CD - there isn't a maintenance mode option. Reinstalling
and detecting errors hasn't worked. Help
