Hi-

If you have a PDF program - save a copy as a PDF and send that.

or...

Open a new Publisher file with the same size page as your original and with
as many pages as your original.

In your original file, Select All>Copy a page (or pair of facing pages.).

In the new file, Paste SPECIAL> as PICTURE onto the new page.

You will have to do this procedure for each page (or facing pair.)

(DO NOT get rid of or delete your original file because you cannot edit the
"picture" copy!)

It isn't complicated to send a PDF file. If I receive a read only file, I
immediately clear the read only option. Morisot gave you the best advice.

If your recipients do not have the Publisher program, they cannot edit the
document.

i do not have a program that will allow me to convert to pdf files.

There are many free pdf creations programs. JoAnn has posted a link to one,
and there are many others. However, if you want your document to be "seen
but not easily edited" then you really should save it as one or more image
files.
why can't i use the read only option that's already in the program??????

Already in what program? I haven't used Publisher much myself yet, but I
haven't seen a "read only" option for saved files. Are you sure you don't
mean the standard Windows "read only" flag, that you can see when you right
click a file and select Properties?
i do not want them to be able to alter it at will. once i create
it, i want to be sure that's what gets printed

If you can set the "read only" flag then other people you send your file to
can just as easily clear it again. How are you going to stop them doing
that?

I know that on your system it appears that the "read only" flag is greyed
out, but if you can find a means of overcoming that problem (which you can
in fact do with a bit of VBA code if you use the Tools / Macro / Visual
Basic Editor menu) then other people can overcome the problem too, and set
it back again.

Besides, what is to stop people from loading your "read only" Publisher file
into Publisher and then amending it and printing the amended version? In
such a case it wouldn't matter whether the file was "read only" or not.

thanks for all the info. in response:

the only adobe programs i have seen to create a file or convert a file to
pdf have a cost or a monthly fee. i just checked out the adobe website, and
found a free one for 5 times, and then a 10 dollar fee monthly. can't
justify the cost for that with the frequency i'll be using it.

already in the program - the adobe reader i think 7.0 - it is blurred out.
i realize that the folks if they are interested enough can find the read only
button and shut it off. however, 1 - i doubt they would be motivated enough
to do that, and 2, since i can't figure out how to turn it on i don't think
they could easily find how to turn it off!

i haven't been able to figure out how to use the read only command as it is
blurred out! and can't figure out what good it is if it is blurred out.
don't want to save pages separately, etc. too much trouble.

thanks for all your help. im used to using pagemaker and i really don't
want to learn another program, but this is the one that the others have, and
they can't print pagemaker documents if they don't have the program.
