How do I save settings?

eg. If I go file/new (Word doc) how do I set Word (or Windows?) to go to the
tab and preview I normally like. When Word reopens this does not happen.

Open the normal.dot file. Change the settings to how you
like them. Then press any character key and delete that
character - this will mark the template as changed. Once
saved, the template will have your settings. Close
normal, close Word and re open.
