How do I send a powerpoint presentation via email so that it opens as a full
screen show, so recipients cannot go into slides and edit text?

Many thanks

Same as the post below. Save it as a PowerPoint Show (.pps).
To do so, click File > Save as. Under save as type, click on the dropdown
and look for PowerPoint show (.pps).

For your reference, if you are using PowerPoint 2002/XP and above,
you can set password to protect your presentation from modification by
unauthorized user. Go to Tools > Options > Security. Set your password there.
