How do I separate Actual Hours from Percentage Complete?

I am required to keep O&M project plans. They start 10-1-04 and end 9-30-05.
Therefore, regardless of the amount of work done or remaining, after 6
months, the project is 50% complete.

How can I show the actual amount of hours worked, without Project
automatically updating the Percent Complete column. It is entirely possible
that some O&M projects will have 95% of the hours completed for the year
before the 6 months is up, but the project is still only 50%.

I've seen that you can Click Tools | Options and go to the Calculation tab
to clear the 'Updating task status updates resource status' check box. But
even after clearing this box, the percentage complete and Actual Hours are
still connected and updating each other.

Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

the key is to enter the actual work in a timephased way so that if the
scheduled showed 8 hours a day for a year and they only worked 4 hours a
day for 6 months then the % Complete would be 50 but the % Work Complete
would be 25.

you do this in the Resource or Task usage view by inserting the Actual
Work field in the yellow timescaled area on the right. Then adjust the
timescale to the right level (weeks maybe) and enter the number of actual
work hours for that time period.

If you just enter Actual Work in the Gantt chart field it will
automatically spread it out across the task exactly as it was scheduled to
be worked so % Complete and % Work complete will always be the same.
