Can't this be done through "Access" or does it take a special program?
I want to do this on the office network rather than a stand alone time clock
in the hall or break room.
:
IMHO, don't use Access for this simple application, at least not for the
user-front-end. Procure the services of a cleaver developer and
consider some alternatives:
1. Upon arrival, employees enter a web page on the intranet (with ID and
password or some other authentication) and by doing that the computer
recognises the start time. Do same on departure.
2. Upon arrival, employess send email to a designated email mail box.
UPon departure they do same. Use Access, or other langauge/platform
(PHP or Python also comes to mind) to interrogate the mail messages and
enter the data into the database.
3. At your entrance, add a new card reader that will read the employee's
ID card without their intervention.
Think thru also the liability and control issues. While the timeclock
may seem old fashioned, they work. Think thru what unaticiapted
problems you will have by changing. Sometimes people don't really
understand all that their current 'systems' (computer or otherwise) do
for them.
