How do I set up section figure numbering in word?

If I have an outline set up and I put a figure in section 4 of the document
what do I need to do to get the figure number to reflect the section number
when I use the word caption option? e.g. Figure 4-1 Financial Figures

You don't mention the version of Word you are using, but for 2003 and prior,
Insert, Reference, Caption, ensure Label is on Figure, click Numbering, check
the Include chapter number, OK.
This should stick for the subsequent Figure captions you insert. If you do a
lot of captions, you can always save the caption as an Autotext entry, see
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/customization/AutoText.htm.
For 2007 the instruction may vary slightly but essentially the same process.
