How do I sum resource hours into a group summary?

Using MS Project 2000. I have structured a project with allocated resources
from a custom group. My timeline is formatted for qtrs and months. I want
to sum the assigned resource hours (planned and actual) within every qtr.

Reports > workload > resource usage > edit > crosstab > change column to
quarter

right click on the right pane in resource usage, add 'cumulative work' field

This gives cumulative work; you have to manually subtract the previous
quarter figures to get the figure for just that quarter.

Or export to excel.
