How do I type a letter into my Publisher template

I have created a business letterhead in Publisher with my own logo. I saved
it as a Publisher Template. Running Windows XP home addition on a Dell
Dimention 3000.
Now I want to use the template to type a letter. I can bring the template
up on my screen but it won't accept my typing
