how do i uninstall office xp professional 2002

I recently upgraded my hard drive to a bigger/better model. I transfered all
the files and settings over with the software that came with the drive. Now,
office isn't working well. An error message keeps coming up that tells me to
run setup and repair. I put in the office cd, but then this message comes
up:

This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package
exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to
verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package.

So now I can't repair it. I go to unistall/reinstall, but they want the cd
to uninstall and I get the same error message. I put the cd into a couple of
other computers and the office installer menu screen pops up right away. I
think that some of my registry was messed up in the hard drive transfer. Any
thoughts as to how to repair or remove office?

Thanks,
kristian

You will need your original Office XP CD and the 25-digit product
key to fix the problem. Office does not like to be copied from
one hard drive to another, because that is one method a software
pirate might try in order to bypass the Office activation
process. To fix the problem:
1. Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility from
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=290301 and install it.
2. Use the utility to delete the Windows Installer entry for
Office XP.
3. Reboot.
4. Uninstall Office XP from Start | Control Panel | Add or
Remove Programs.
5. Install Office XP from the original CD.
