I said yes, and then added humor. Were you looking for a step by step
tutorial on how to use Publisher? If so, RTFM.

What exactly are you looking for here?,, ideas or a title maybe?.. whether
to go for hardbound or softbound?

If you are going to write a book which will then be taken to a publisher for
appraisal and possible publishing, you should use MS Word, Courier 10 point,
and 1.5 line spacing..

And quit it with the bad attitude.. JoAnn answered your query..

Also, Publisher has help files, as do all MS products.. try looking at
them..

Thank you, Mike. You're alright, especially for a Canadian. ;-)

Hi, Rhino -

If I were writing a book I would not use Publisher, unless it was a
children's picture book or a very short (no more than 32 page), illustrated
book of some sort. (And even then, if there was a fair amount of text, I
would type it into Word (or even Works or Wordpad first) for drafts to work
on and proof, and then I would paste it into Publisher.

Book publishers like scripts in the form that I suggested to the OP.. can't
wait to see it at the bookstand.. "How To Make Friends And Influence
People - The Sequel" .. just a suggestion.. :)

You might be able to layout the book in Publisher and supply files the
printer can use, but if you want to write a book, you might want to try
a pen or pencil. Oh, and perhaps lose the attitude.

Just a simple suggestion: Ask the questions you want answered.

Your post asked "if you can use Publisher 2003 to [write a book]". The
answer was Yes, which is what JoAnn told you.

Re-reading your subject line (where, btw, it is not a good idea to post
relavent information that you are not putting in the message body), you ask
how to write a book using Publisher (or HOW TO WRITE A BOOK USING PUBLISHER,
even).

Writing a book is always the same procedure, whatever software you use. You
may need classes in English or Creative Writing in order to be able to write
a good narrative.
The only place where Publisher is different is in the laying out of the
publication. This, however, is more than completely explained through help
files, manuals, and online articles at the Microsoft Office Online site.
There are also templates available to demonstrate to you aspects of good
design and possibly for you to copy for your layout.
If your copy of Publisher 2003 did not come with a manual, I would look on
eBay to see if you could find a copy of the "Publisher 97 Companion".
Although it is not up-to-date with the newer features, it gives a great
introduction to design and how to use Publisher to create such designs,
among other things.

Damn! You sure know how to make sure you always get respect (and
answers) from this or any newsgroup! You're just lucky it was someone
as courteous as JoAnn who first answered you. Miss Tick would have
flayed you, and (were he still around) David the Terrible would have
ground up the remains. Be nice.
Blessed be, for sure...

Hi, Mike Hall -

Our posts were less than 10 minutes apart - I did not see yours until after
I posted. I certainly wouldn't argue with the 10 point Courier
(double-spaced) for a manuscript that was going to be submitted to a
publisher...

J

JoAnn Paules

Depending on the subject of his book, that attitude may be beneficial to the
writing. Or maybe he's writing "Posting In Newsgroups For Dummies"?

Hello Rhino,

Publisher is not a good program for writing a book. Word is much better for
a lot of reasons: you can establish a table of contents, you can write as
much as you like without running into memory problems, you can add headers,
footers, footnotes and references - it is a much better option. If you are
looking at desk top publishing you might want to look into one of the
publishing software packages. This will give a professional finish to your
work.

Hope this information helps

Now I feel bad. You called me courteous and I told him to RTFM.

Aah, but you told him courteously, and you didn't spell out the
instructions!

Blessed be, for sure...
