I want to insert a column/field in which each mail in the folder will be
given a number from 1 to whatever the count of mails is in the folder. The
purpose is to print the entire list for use as an attachment to a affidavitt
of discovery.

Do you actually want the mails numbered as an eternal reference number or do
you just want to show the actual count for informational purposes?

Assuming the last, change your view of the message list in Outlook to a
single line table view and add/remove the columns you want. Select all the
messages and paste them in Excel. You can now print from Excel with the line
numbers.

Another way to go would be to use the import function of Access. This will
create a unique primary key as a reference to a message. Office 2007 offers
a 2-way sync between Access and Outlook to reflect the modifications you
make in either program. You can use the reporting function in Access to
print the information you like.
