How does the Spike work in Word 07?

I used to use the Spike a lot in Word 03. Since it was available to add to
the Quick Access Toolbar in 07, I went ahead and added it, but I can't figure
out how to use it. I've searched all the help screens/libraries I can find,
but no instructions are given for its use in 07, only 03. Can anyone help?

As far as I know it is similar, if not the same, but if you want to use
icons to work with the soike you will need to add two commands to the
QAT: "Spike" and "Insert Spike" (I think you have the former. Then
a. select some content. Click the Spike icon in the QAT, or press
ctrl-F3 to move it to the spike
b. to insert the contents of the Spike and empty the Spike, click in
the location where you want to insert the entire contents of the Spike.
Click your Insert Spike icon in the QAT or ctrl-shift-F3.
c. to insert the contents of the Spike and leave the content in the
Spike, click in the location where you want to insert the entire
contents of the Spike. Go to the Insert Tab, Text group and click Quick
Parts->Building Blocks Organiser...then locate and select the entry
called "Spike" and click Insert.
