Hyperlink Word 03 to an Excel 07 File

I created a doc in Word 07 (Win 7 OS), but am running it on my laptop which
has XP, Word 03 and Excel 03. I have hyperlinks in the Word doc to Excel
files, which are also created in 07. I can open the Excel files on the
laptop if I click on them directly, but they won't open from the hyperlinks
in the Word doc. I get a message saying "File Conversion in Progress" then
nothing happens. How can I get these files to open from the hyperlinks?
