How does one temporarily disable an email address in a Word document so that
one may make changes in it? (For example, in a membership roster document
that includes email addresses that need to be updated/edited.)

Go to Tools> AutoCorrect and on the "AutoFormat as you type" tab, uncheck
"Replace while you type"> "Internet paths with hyperlinks." You can
re-check it when you're done if you wish. I leave mine unchecked all the
time.

Thanks very much, Beth. I, too, will leave mine unchecked all the time.

I now know why I couldn't find the answer in Help or on the MVPs' FAQs web
pages. I used keywords such as "disable" with "email" and "url" and with
those terms and "address." I should have thought of AutoCorrect and
AutoFormat or hyperlinks as keywords.

I now understand from Beth's clear response to an earlier message how to
keep Word from AutoCorrecting plain text email addresses and urls in NEW
documents. But I'm stuck with a Word organizational roster document with
loads of existing email addresses. Is there any way to short of stripping
all the formatting of the document to allow me to make changes to the email
addresses?

Hi Norman:

Right-click it. You will get an Edit Hyperlink option.

Cheers

Hi Norman:

Third attempt: RIGHT CLICK THE FIELD!!!

If you want to do all at once, use Preferences>View>Field codes. Don;t
forget to disable it again when you have finished.

Cheers
